The Institute of St.Catherine is the cradle of the Indian mission. The first convent of the Sisters of the Poor in India, St.Catherine Convent, was established in 1979 with the Apostolic blessing of His Eminence late Cardinal Mar Joseph Parekkattil and the then parish priest late Rev. Fr.Jose Thachil and the Parishioners of St.Judes Church, Karanakodam. On 17th November 2012 the convent was recognized the Provincial House of the Indian Mission. The first and foremost Apostolic mission of Sisters of the Poor is the Faith Formation. The Faith Formation can be   nvisioned in all the Apostolic works like Home mission, Youth formation, Catechism, preparation for the First Holy Communion, Education ministry and the day care centre for the children. The first stage of Religious Formation is also a part of the Provincial house. There are 9 aspirants who are making their discernment along with their +2 studies. Sr. Mercy Koikkara is the Formator of the Aspirants.

MOTHER SAVINA STUDY HOUSE

 

 

It was established in 1979 and it is one of the pioneer houses of the  Mother Savina Province. It is the formation house of the Sisters of the Poor in India. The house is being used for all the ongoing formation programmes of the sisters. The Novitiate, the time of intense preparation for the religious life and profession of the vows, is spent in the  community. Sr.Philomina Uthuppan is the Mistress of the novitiate.

The house is being renovated for the accommodation of the sick and the elderly sisters of the Province. The sisters   of the community are also involved in all the parish level activities including faith formation of the youth and families.

SAVINA SADAN, MOTADEVALIA

The first mission station of the Sisters of the Poor in India started in  Mota Devalia, the distric of Amreli, Gujrat. It was established in 1988. There are three sisters in the community and they are involved in various Apostolic activities. The sisters help the women and girls of the villages to become self-reliant by giving training in tailoring, cutting and  embroidery stitching.

The sisters with so much spirit of sacrifice continue to realize various projects of the social work such as women empowerment  programmes, formal and informal education programmes. Medical service is also a crying need of the villages. The dedicated service, care and comfort of the sisters during the home visits as well as in the dispensary, bear witness to the compassion of Christ who while on earth healed the sick and afflicted.

The Sisters of the Poor started the mission in Mumbai in 1989, at  Bhamanwada,  Sahar. The house was purchased with the purpose of facilitating the travel of the sisters who leave for abroad. The sisters dedicate themselves to the apostolic activities of Faith formation of the families and youth. The sisters also run a day care centre for the children.

Sevagram, is a Special School for the differently able children. It started in 1992 by the CMI Fathers. The Sisters of the Poor are giving their selfless service to this institution. It is a residential school and more than 60 children are studying here. The sisters actively involve also in the faith

Formation  of the families and the youth.

The   KVT was established by late Rev. Fr. George Kunnath CMI in 1998. It is a boarding school for the disabled children,( mentally challenged, handicapped, blind and deaf.) Four of our sisters are responsible for the mission here. They provide their selfless care and service to these children concentrating on their welfare and safety.

Savina Sneha Bhavan is a home established on 1998 for the girls who have both financial and family problems.  The home renders them a suitable platform for their integral development and to build up their future career. There are around 30 children staying in the home. There are 3 sisters who look after their integral development including their spiritual, psychological and emotional growth. On November 04, 2008, the Sneha Bhavan celebrated the decennial day of its foundation and thanked the Lord for all the people who have tirelessly worked hard for the accomplishment of the mission. The sisters are also actively involved in the parish level activities like faith  formation of the children, youth and the families. There is also a centre of teaching the arts, and crafts including the stitching of the altar clothes and other articles.

In  the year 1998 the Sisters of the Poor offered their service at the diocese taking up the responsibility of teaching at St.Thomas  school, Rajula. Savi Jyothi Convent is situated in the compound of St. Thomas School. The locality is inhabited by a large number of Muslims and Hindus. It is a developing industrial area. There are also a number of  catholic families migrated for their business related works. Savina Bhavan is another milestone in the history of Sisters of the Mother Savina Province. The house was established in 1998 with a purpose of providing the stay facilities to the girls who seek their studies in Bangalore. The sisters enthusiastically collaborate in giving their generous service to the students rendering them a platform for their spiritual and personal development. The sisters take active participation in the teaching ministry and in all the parish level activities. It includes the Faith formation of the youth and families organizing various programmes and prayer meetings. Savina Kinder Garden is a mission

started by the sisters as per the need of the place. St. Thomas Forane Church is blessed by the active involvement and generous service of the Savina sisters.

Savinaram Convent started in 2001. The house was opened as the centre of vocation promotional activities. The sisters run a residential school, Savi Snehalaya Special School for the mentally challenged children. There are currently 15 children and there are many requests those cannot be fulfilled due to the lack of infrastructure. The sisters also extend their service to the parish activities such as the Faith formation of the families, youth and children by visiting the families and the sick.

Maria Sadan Convent is situated in the same compound of the Provincial House. It started in 2002 and it offers the service to the Nursing students. The sisters manage the hostel with utmost care and concern for the nursing students. The main ministries are, Teaching, Social work and the parish activities: The sisters take active participation in the parish level activities such as the Faith formation of the families, youth and the children by organizing various activities visiting the families, conducting weekly prayer meetings.

The Savina Convent at Thrikodithanam was established with the purpose of parish level ministry and teaching mission. The convent was blessed in 2002. The parish is populated with a large number of Catholic families. The sisters take a good effort in the faith formation of the children and the youth by organizing various activities and visiting the families and actively involving in the family prayer meetings.

The Savi Niketan community is in the heart of Rajkot city and it is very close to the Bishop‘s house. It was Established in   January 2005. Through the ministry of education the sisters dedicate their lives to foster the individuals intellectually, spiritually and physically, so that they have a mature vision of life. The sisters actively participate in the Faith formation of the children, youth and the families of the parish.

Savina Orden is the fulfillment of the long cherished dream of the Province. The sisters offered their prayers and sacrifices for the realization of this mission. The Diocese of Osnabruck invited us to start a mission in the Diocese and the province positively responded to the invitation. The Almighty showered His blessings upon this new mission and it was actualized in January 2012. Now the Sisters render their service to the Marianna Hospital in Lengerich Plant. The sisters are also actively engaged in all the activities of the Parish.

The St. Catherine Study House is a completion of a treasured dream for one more community in the diocese of Ernakulam. Mar Thomas Chakkiath, Bishop Emeritus of Ernakulam –Angamaly Archdiocese blessed the convent on 14th June, 2014. The vicinity of the different religious congregations and retreat centres render a spiritual fragrance to the surroundings. The convent is a house of formation for the Postulants. The sisters provide their service in the parish in Faith formation of the Youth and families. Sr. Shelgy Molel is the Formator of the Postulants.

The Sisters of the Poor have their total trust in the Lord who provides everything in their lives since the inception of the congregation. The St.Catherine Convent is such a divine providence. His Excellencey, Mar. Thomas Elevanal, Bishop of Kalyan diocese blessed the convent on 20th October, 2014. The sisters help in proclaiming the Kingdom of God by giving leadership in Catechism, involvement in various organizations or movement for the youth, parents and family meetings. The house visits and preparing the children for the Holy Communion are also platform for the Gospel dissemination. The sisters have decided to open a day care centre as there was a persistent request from the local people.
